10 top tips for your spring clean

Spring is just around the corner and with the days getting lighter it may be shining a light on some areas that need a spruce. To help you get the most out of your spring cleaning we’ve put together a list of some of our top tips for getting your home perfectly clean.

  1. Cleaning stainless steel appliances

If you want to make your stainless steel surfaces shine mix 1 tsp of washing up liquid with 1 litre of hot tap water. Using a soft cloth like microfiber rub the solution onto the surface going with the grain, wipe off with hot water and dry with a clean cloth.

  1. De-crease your curtains with your tumble dryer

To easily get creases out of your curtains pup them in the dryer for 15 minutes on the air-only cycle then rehang them right away for the creases to drop out. (always check fabric labels)

  1. Clean plastic children’s toys in the dishwasher

Got a load of plastic children’s toys which need a refresh? Pop them in the dishwasher on a quick wash (without the heated dry) to quickly and easily disinfect plastic toys.

  1. Clean your vacuum cleaner for an optimum clean

Before you go round your house with your vacuum cleaner make sure it’s working at its best by giving it it’s own spring clean. Replace the bag or clean out the dust chamber. Replace or wash the filter and cut out any caught threads or hairs with a seam ripper.

  1. Get your old cutting boards fresh and clean

Got an old chopping board which is looking a little worse for the wear? Cut a lemon in half and rub it over the board with a little baking soda to get out any pesky stains.

  1. Loosen any caked-on dirt in your microwave

Got a pesky bit of sauce that won’t shift in your microwave? Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and a couple of slices of lemon, heat in the microwave until the water starts to boil. The steam will help to loosen any burnt-on food which you can wipe out with a damp cloth while the lemon helps to remove any lingering smells.

  1. Stop your bin from stinking up the kitchen

When changing your bin liner put a cotton ball soaked in your favourite essential oil in the bottom of the bin, this will help to fight bad smells in your bin.

  1. Get rid of bad smells in your fridge

Got a lingering smell in your fridge? Mix 230g of baking soda with a few drops of your favourite essential oil, lemon is for a fresh smell, in a cup and pop it in the back of your fridge, the baking soda will absorb bad smells while the essential oil refreshes.

  1. Have your oven do the cleaning for you

If oven cleaning is your nemesis then upgrading to a pyrolytic oven is the answer. Pyrolitic cleaning works by bringing the temperature in the oven up to around 500°c which burns away grease and food residue, leaving a pile of ash at the bottom of the oven which is easy to wipe out, meaning you never have to scrub your oven.

  1. Save time and water with fuzzy logic

How smart is your washing machine? Fuzzy logic on a washing machine means that the machine weighs your load and adjusts the settings to ensure time and water are not wasted.
